Frances Agro, JUMP Math's Manager of Outreach and Teacher Support for Ontario, will deliver our workshops in the province. Benefit from Frances' seven years of experience using JUMP Math in the classroom, special education, and tutoring environments as well as her extensive knowledge of supporting research.

How to Reach and Teach Every Child (Introduction)

Focus Audience: Teachers of Grades 1–8, Learning Assistance Specialists, and EAs with little or no experience with JUMP Math.

JUMP Math’s Professional Development (PD) session is designed to give you the tools and skills to effectively implement the program in your classroom or school.  In this workshop, you will:

  • Learn about the JUMP Math program, its philosophy and development
  • Examine their own comfort levels with mathematics and mathematics teaching
  • Discuss the importance of teachers' mathematical knowledge
  • Observe and critique a JUMP Math lesson
  • Become familiar with JUMP Math's teacher and student materials
  • Learn about anticipating ‘pitfalls’, task analysis and other JUMP Math teaching strategies
  • Discuss practical strategies
  • Have opportunities to share ideas and network with colleagues

Taking it to the Next Level (Level 2)

Focus Audience: Teachers of Grades 1–8, Learning Assistance Specialists, and EAs who have a good grounding in the basics of JUMP Math and wish to take their practice to the next level.

This JUMP Math Professional Development (PD) session focuses on how to get the most out of the JUMP Math Program and take it to the next level. You will be guided through the art of scaffolding difficult concepts in math teaching. We will look at how to develop bonus questions/challenging students who finish quickly. We will examine teaching strategies and games that will help you in developing solid problem solving skills in young people.  In this workshop participants will:

  • Thoroughly examine JUMP Math principles in order to maximize their effectiveness in your educational setting
  • Expand on your knowledge of problem-solving in mathematics, and learn about the JUMP Math approach to teaching effective problem-solving strategies to your students
  • Guide you through the art of scaffolding difficult concepts in mathematics instruction
  • Learn how to increase your student’s mathematical vocabulary and to make math relevant
  • Explore the use of guided practice and guided discovery.
  • Look at how to develop bonus questions that challenge students who finish quickly.

Share tips on

  • Using the Teacher's Guide and website effectively
  • Which topics to focus on more if time is short to complete the workbooks
  • Teaching combined-grade classes (how to align the books/teach to both grades in the same lesson)

JUMP Math’s Professional Development (PD) session is designed to give you the tools and skills to effectively meet the needs of all of your learners in your classroom or school. In this workshop the presenters will:

  • Explore how learning differences become challenges in your classroom
  • Explain how JUMP Math minimizes these challenges and enables you to teach to a higher standard without leaving any students behind
  • Discuss the importance of brain-based teaching strategies
  • Discuss practical strategies to engage all students
  • Have opportunities to share ideas and network with colleagues

When you register, you have the opportunity to order one set of grade-specific student Assessment and Practice books at the discounted price of $14 plus GST and one printed, binder-ready version of a grade-specific Teacher Resource package at the discounted price of $65 plus GST.  This discount is only available up to one week before the workshop.
