National Book Fund
Bring the success of the JUMP Math program to your classroom.
About the National Book Fund
The National Book Fund is a subsidy program to help bring JUMP Math into classrooms that face financial barriers.
Through the National Book Fund, selected teachers receive support towards classroom sets of JUMP Math workbooks, professional development, and year-round support from JUMP Math staff.
If you would like to support this innovative fund, please donate!
Who Can Apply
This year, the National Book Fund is receiving applications from schools in communities of need in or around the following urban centres:
- Vancouver
- Calgary
- Winnipeg
- Toronto
- Ottawa
The National Book Fund is designed to assist:
- students with academic need
- enthusiastic teachers
- teachers who are facing financial barriers to acquiring a new program
We encourage more than one teacher from a school to apply. Collaboration and peer support enhance the effectiveness of the JUMP Math program. If you are the only teacher using JUMP Math in your school, we will help you connect with other teachers using JUMP Math in your area.
A teacher is eligible to receive support through the National Book Fund for a maximum of three years.
Selection
Selection of the applicants will be based on the following criteria:
- demonstration of academic need
- demonstration of financial need
- sufficient readiness to implement JUMP Math
We regret that we are unable to accept all qualified applicants due to resource constraints.
Commitment
Teachers selected in the National Book Fund must commit to attending a professional development workshop and completing the evaluation component.
Professional Development
A professional development workshop will be held in each urban centre where the Book Fund is available for 2008-2009. The workshop will be either delivered in a day long session or two evening sessions.
Vancouver - September 10 & 11 (evening sessions)
Calgary - October 20 & 21 (evening sessions)
Winnipeg - September 8 & 9 (evening sessions)
Toronto - August 25 (day session)
Ottawa - August 29 (day session)
By attending a PD workshop prior to the rollout of the program, you will gain a better understanding of the program's principles and how to best use the resources. The workshop is also an opportunity to meet Dr. John Mighton, the founder of JUMP Math, and to discover the community of JUMP Math teachers.
Program Evaluation
Completing the evaluation is a mandatory component of participation in the National Book Fund.
