New Toronto PD Sessions
Professional Development sessions featuring John Mighton will be held in Toronto on August 23 and 24, 2010.
"In my experience, children want two things in order to be happy in school: to exercise their minds and to show off!
"Mathematics may well be the subject in which children can most easily satisfy both of these desires."
- John Mighton, Founder of JUMP Math
New work in cognition has shown that mathematical abilities can be developed in all students - even ones who have traditionally struggled in school. The brain is not static; it continues to change and develop throughout life. Steady, incremental learning based on guided practice can result in the emergence of new abilities.
In these Professional Development sessions, John Mighton will talk about how JUMP Math's carefully designed instruction and resources support recent discoveries in cognitive science. He will present a number of proven methods that teachers can use to engage all of their students in learning mathematics.
