Day one will be an introduction that takes an intensive look at the components of JUMP Math: Teacher Resources, Assessment and Practice books, Mental Math, Number Talks, and Digital Lesson Slides and how they work together to develop confidence and skills in both teachers and students. We will also look at the supporting research and philosophy that underpin this math resource. Day One is for teachers who have not had JUMP Math PD in the past, or who would like to have a refresher.
Day two. We will spend the morning exploring the RaPID model developed by researchers from the Math Minds project from the Werklund School of Education at the University of Calgary. This model allows us to examine how to identify key mathematical concepts (called Critical Discernments) in JUMP Math lessons, how to assess student’s learning of these; and the next steps for the teacher. The afternoon will be spent planning for the coming year with plenty of time for individual questions.
You are welcome to sign up for the first day, the second day, or both days.
If you would like to only attend the second day you must have already attended a full-day Introduction to JUMP Math PD so as to ensure that you are already familiar with the resources. Please contact Gael (email@example.com) or Donna (firstname.lastname@example.org) for a ‘day two only’ code to use at registration.
