Dean Prevost - Chair. Dean brings over 20 years of corporate leadership to his role as President of the Enterprise business unit at Rogers Communications. Prior to this, Dean spent 17 years at AT&T/MTS Allstream in nearly every senior executive position, including five years as President. From 2014-2017, Dean was CEO at Hi-Pro Feeds, and left after the successful sale to an industry player. Prior to telecom, he worked with a variety of companies driving growth and expansion as a strategy consultant with Monitor Company. Dean holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Finance from the University of Calgary with distinction and a Masters of Business Administration from Harvard Business School. In addition to JUMP Math, he previously volunteered his time on the board of the YMCA of Greater Toronto.
Emma Barnes Brown. Emma is the Chief People Officer of Agero, a Boston-based tech firm providing services to the automotive and insurance industries. Prior to joining Agero, Emma has held a variety of HR leadership roles in both Canada and the U.S. She was the Chief Talent Officer at Vistaprint (now Cimpress), where she was responsible for HR and corporate strategy globally. She was the Chief Administrative Officer at Koko Fit Club, where she was responsible for HR, finance and board/investor relations. Earlier in her career, Emma was a founding partner of the Leadership and Organizational practice at Monitor Company and a Director on Monitor’s Board. Emma earned her MBA from Harvard Business School. She earned her Bachelor of Commerce and Honors Bachelor of Arts (Mathematics/Economics) from Queen’s University in Canada.
Sherry Campbell. Sherry was appointed President and CEO of The Gordon Foundation in 2016. Prior to this, she was President and CEO of Frontier College and Frontier College Foundation from 2007 – 2016. Ms. Campbell has also managed national and international services at the YMCA of Greater Toronto, and worked in Guatemala and Nicaragua for close to four years. She has served on many boards and has been an advisor to organizations that focus on international development issues. In 2012, she received the Queen’s Jubilee Medal for her work with Aboriginal communities and in 2014, Ms. Campbell was named one of Canada’s 100 most powerful women, under the category “Trailblazers and Trendsetters”.
Gerry Connelly. Gerry Connelly is Special Advisor –Education for The Learning Partnership and is an adjunct professor at York University. She is also served as vice chair of the Education, Quality and Accountability Organization (EQAO). She is the former Director of Education of the Toronto District School Board and Director of the Curriculum and Assessment Policy Branch in the Ontario Ministry of Education. Gerry’s career includes teaching and administration in both rural and urban environments in Alberta, the Northwest Territories, the United States and Ontario, at both the secondary and post-secondary levels. She has also worked in South Africa, China and Estonia providing advice on inclusive schools, teaching and learning, curriculum development and second language learning. Gerry serves on several boards including WE Charity, the Children’s Aid Society of Toronto, Humber College. She has also co-chaired the Sustainability and Education Academy which provided leadership training and support both nationally and internationally in the area of Education for Sustainable Development. Gerry is the recipient of many awards including the Distinguished Educator Award from OISE/University of Toronto, the Government of Ontario Teacher Dedication Award by the Royal Conservatory of Music, Learning Through the Arts, the Ontario Supervisory Officers provincial award for Leadership in Public Education. Several other awards have acknowledged her commitment to equity, and community engagement. These include the City of Toronto Bob Marley Award, the Fraser Mustard Award and the University of Toronto Arbor Award. She is the recipient of the Science Teacher of the Year Award, Lifetime Achievement Award as a Leader in Science and 2014 Phi Delta Kappan/UToronto Outstanding Educator Award.
Robert G. Goodall - Treasurer. Robert is the President, CEO and founder of Atrium Mortgage Investment Corporation, a publicly traded (TSX) $575 million non-bank lender. Mr. Goodall is also the President, and the founder, of the Manager, Canadian Mortgage Capital Corporation, a major mortgage brokerage company with well-established lending and mortgage servicing operations. Prior to founding the Manager, Mr. Goodall spent seven years with Royal Trust, the last three years as National Managing Director of the Real Estate Finance Group. He was responsible for a portfolio of $1.4 billion in commercial and multi-residential real estate loans, including fixed and floating rate mortgages, construction loans and mezzanine loan facilities. Mr. Goodall has an MBA from the Schulich School of Business and is a trustee of DREAM Office REIT.
Christopher Hunter. Christopher is a partner at Norton Rose Fulbright in Toronto. During the early days of the dot com boom he was drawn into legal practice from a career in engineering. His practice focuses exclusively on all aspects of intellectual property commercialization and prosecution. Prior to joining Norton Rose Canada, Mr. Hunter was a partner at another major law firm in Toronto. Before becoming a lawyer, he was a management consultant with Andersen Consulting (now Accenture). Chris completed graduate studies in engineering prior to entering law school, and has maintained a keen interest in math and applied math. Prior to parenthood he was an active volunteer for a number of charitable programs, including the Out of the Cold shelter program for the homeless.
Linda MacKay. Linda has leadership of the newly created Business Transformation & Enablement Team for TD's Canadian Personal Banking. Prior to this role, Linda had the leadership of the Greater Toronto Region which included 257 branches and 5,650 TD Teammates. She's had senior roles in Product, Business Banking and other head office functions including Vice President & Special Assistant to the CEO. Linda's passionate about Financial Education, Woodgreen’s Homeward Bound Program, Canadian Women’s Foundation & United Way. Linda completed her undergraduate degree at University of Toronto and completed her MBA at the Joseph L Rotman School of Business.
Vinay Sarin – Secretary (Former Chair). Vinay retired as a SVP at Bank of Montreal, with over 30 years’ experience in financial management and business strategy. He is a natural problem solver with a strong ability to bring together various disciplines – legal, tax, accounting, etc. Following retirement, Vinay completed a law degree at the University of Toronto. Since then, he has pursued his interest in helping individuals fight injustice and promoting a better world, with a focus on immigration law, family law, trusts/wills/estates and civil law matters. Vinay has extensive experience on volunteer boards and not-for-profit organizations and is currently a director of State Bank of India (Chair of Audit Committee). Vinay served as Chair of JUMP Math from 2011 to 2015, and is proud to continue his support as a Director.
Senior Leadership Team
Dr. John Mighton OC - Founder. John Mighton is a mathematician, best-selling author, and award-winning playwright. John completed a Ph.D. in mathematics at the University of Toronto and was awarded a Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) fellowship for postdoctoral research in knot and graph theory. He is a Fellow of the Fields Institute for Research in Mathematical Sciences, has taught mathematics at the University of Toronto and lectured in philosophy at McMaster University, where he received a Master’s in Philosophy. John is intimately involved in the innovation and development of JUMP Math programs, is frequently consulted as an international thought-leader on math education, and represents JUMP Math at conferences and in the media.
Bruce Bennett - Vice President of Finance and Administration. Bruce is an entrepreneur, philanthropist, trusted adviser, and experienced director. Prior to joining JUMP Math, Bruce was the President of Bennecon Ltd. where, for 20 years, he led teams in assisting dozens of major North American organizations in improving internal efficiencies and in developing new strategies. During this period, he significantly expanded the firm’s scope of service offerings and geographic area served resulting in a quadrupling in the size of the organization. With deep experience across a variety of functions, Bruce has been an advisor to numerous executives and boards of directors. Previously he spent several years in sales and marketing at Xerox Corporation and at Anderson Consulting (now Accenture) as a Senior Consultant. He is a graduate of the Richard Ivey School of Business Administration.
Michael Crum - Vice President of Development, US. Michael has over 20 years of experience in the educational and social justice arenas as a volunteer, donor, staff member, consultant, and board member across the United States and Canada. He has an extensive background in philanthropy and impact investment, having worked with universities, international nonprofits, and social purpose businesses. Mike is a US citizen who has been a permanent resident of Canada since 2011. Mike joined JUMP Math after learning about the organization’s outcomes helping low-income and inner-city students reach their potential and promise.
Claudia DeSimone - Vice President of Development, Canada Claudia is an entrepreneurial leader, mentor, and changemaker. For more than 15 years, Claudia has validated and launched innovative solutions to improve lives, communities, and systems across sectors. She got to know the JUMP Math team through Ashoka’s global network of social entrepreneurs, where she led partnerships for Canada and scaled two education programs (Ashoka U and Start Empathy) designed to nurture students’ skills and potential to become changemakers. Claudia holds a Bachelor of Journalism from Ryerson University and a Master of Environmental Studies from York University.
Sol Kasimer - Special Advisor to the CEO. Sol has an extensive background in the non-profit sector. He was previously Special Advisor to the CEO of Imagine Canada and National Advisor to The Learning Partnership. He has been the CEO of YMCA Canada, Altruvest Charitable Services and the Montreal YMCA over his distinguished 35 year career. Sol was a founding member of the Voluntary Sector Roundtable and co-chaired the Capacity Joint Table with the Federal Government. He has been a Director of the Public Policy Forum; a member of the Conference Board of Canada’s National Council on Education and volunteer Board member of Portage a substance abuse rehabilitation program for teens. Sol holds a BSc. in Psychology from McGill University and an MSc. in Human Development from Purdue.
Kevin Linder - Publisher. Kevin completed an MSc. in math at McGill University before entering the publishing industry. As JUMP Math's publications manager, Kevin is responsible for managing curriculum writers and production staff. He also manages publishing and distribution of JUMP Math's classroom resources. He has worked in publishing for 24 years, including 14 years in educational publishing. Before joining JUMP Math in 2008, Kevin was a senior nonfiction editor at House of Anansi Press, the publisher of several of John Mighton's books.
Su McVey – Vice President of Marketing for Canada. Su McVey is an innovator and marketing change agent with a proven track record in building and transforming marketing organizations to drive business results. She offers deep marketing expertise drawn from industry and agency experience in financial services, technology and telecom. Su is a dynamic mentor known for developing and building high performing teams and fostering an environment of continuous improvement, with a talent for identifying, evaluating and maximizing traditional and emerging marketing opportunities. She holds a B.A. from the University of Western Ontario.
Mary Sadleir - Vice President of Outreach. Mary has 30 years of education program sales experience and manages JUMP Math’s team of nine Outreach Managers. She is responsible for all Canadian outreach activities, including program sales, teacher professional development and teacher support. Most recently, Mary served as Director of Sales for McGraw-Hill Education (Canada), where she was responsible for annual revenue of $20 million. Mary graduated with a BA in Psychology from Queen’s University.
